Traditional Confucian said "self-cultivation",in essence,is a kind of self-moral education. This paper discusses Liu Zongzhou's work Renpu and its rich dim consciousness, then, tries to find a representative and referential way of self-cultivation from the traditional Confucian moral system. The author tries to provide a perspective for modern moral education to draw lessons from traditional ideas by analyzing the text and dim consciousness of Liu Zongzhou's Renpu. The paper is divided into three parts:In the first part, the author studies the birth of the dim consciousness in Liu Zongzhou's thought through the creation reasons of the book, there are two main reasons:Wang Yangming's theory finally leads to moral nihilism and Yuan Huang's Book of Merit and Fault leads to moral utilitarianism. And Liu Zongzhou's personal experience of redemption and his reflection on the depravity of human nature under the above circumstances. In the second part,Through the text analysis of the main part of the book, the author shows the moral practice system based on the dark consciousness contained in it,which is summarized as three links:"self-restraint","no fault" and "introspection and practice",and summarizes Liu Zongzhou's personal self-cultivation from the negative path of dim consciousness.First,Liu Zongzhou affirms that people can become perfect through hard work. However, how to deal with the inevitable darkness in the heart?Liu Zongzhou put forward the "Six Things to Do" in Renpu. The author sums up the thoughts reflected in this part as "caution in independence".Secondly, the book lists many ways to reform.Liu Zongzhou believes that one should be aware of the darkness inside. So the author believes that the ultimate purpose of this part is that people should keep moving towards the state of "no fault" in the process of reform. Finally,in Liu's opinion,it is not enough to realize one's own faults. He reminds people, through his book, all the behavior of reform must return to the real life at last.Through constant examination and reflection, one can achieve the unity of knowing and doing. The third part, first of all, from the standpoint of "self-study",this paper sorts out how the self-cultivation of traditional Confucianism develops to the dark consciousness, and the introspection of its own limitation and the value of moral education are still worthy of attention.Secondly, the author tries to summarize the ideological system of moral education contained in the book:People-centered,all moral education should focus on people themselves. For the purpose of no good,no good is to convey a state in which there is nothing bad.Taking the dim consciousness as the entry point,it reminds moral education to take into account the reality when conveying the ideality.Take reform as a method,we should treat every change as self-renewal and establish the attitude of being responsible for life.Take the unity of knowing and doing as the end-result.All the understandings of mistakes should return to the actual life. Finally, the author discusses some reflections that the dark consciousness presented in this book brings to modern moral education:Moral education should start from the standpoint that no one is perfect, set our eyes on self-reflection education, and finally let every student be honest about his own shortcomings to live more bravely. At the end of the paper, the author considers the limitation of traditional thought "while drawing lessons from traditional culture.
