Jessica Benjamin(1946-),a Jewish American psychoanalyst,is an important representative of the current theory of relational psychoanalysis and intersubjectivity. She currently works at New York University.Benjamin has made many fundamental and original contributions to the theory, practice and application of psychoanalysis in her research for more than 40 years. In theory, she introduced the concept of interaction between mother and child from the viewpoint of slavery;she emphasized the important role of mutual recognition in realizing inter-subjectivity,and believed that mutual recognition was the necessary basis for realizing inter-subjectivity,and maintained a balance through the tension between rupture and repair;she also had a unique view on the current development model of psychology, believing in the heart.Theory and duality psychology should be paid attention to at the same time, and the discussion of relationship should be combined with inner dimension. In clinical practice,Benjamin introduced a third party to construct a psychological space between the consultant and the patient to achieve inclusion and treatment. She opposed the traditional psychological counseling method which regarded the consultant as a whiteboard reflecting completely the content of the visitor's conversation and the psychology of the visitor. She believed that both sides were equal subjects in counseling and interacted in an inclusive space to help patients repair their uncoordinated subjectivity and relationship with the consultant's complete subjectivity.Benjamin's main contribution is to interpret and disseminate the idea of intersubjectivity in psychoanalysis,to open up a new way to study relational psychoanalysis, and to promote the development of feminism in psychoanalysis. Its main limitations include the lack of systematic psychoanalysis theory and technology, the lack of empirical support, and the existence of self-contradictory views.Benjamin's thought has had a far-reaching impact on the field of' contemporary psychoanalysis and psychotherapy.
