| Pronunciation,vocabulary and grammar are the three elements of language composition,and vocabulary is the first language element that first-grade primary school students are exposed to in English learning.In the process of vocabulary learning,students’ word recognition ability will have a certain impact on their future language listening,speaking,reading and writing,especially on the expansion of vocabulary and the improvement of reading ability.Through years of teaching practice,the author found that at the first grade,some students have mastered the ability to recognize words,and can be familiar with the form,sound and meaning of words,while some students still have some difficulties in word recognition.Students can read or speak when they learn words,but they cannot recognize the words without context or even without pictures.They cannot pronounce the words or know the meaning of the words.The first grade of primary school is the foundation of receiving language education and learning language knowledge.What are the problems that first-grade students lack in word recognition ability and how to improve their word recognition ability as soon as possible at the beginning of school? These are the contents that front-line teachers urgently need to understand and practice.Therefore,it is necessary to study the current situation of the word recognition ability of first-grade primary school students.In this research,86 first-grade students of W primary school in Shanghai were selected as the research objects,and the current situation of word recognition ability of first-grade students three months after their enrollment was investigated and studied by using test method and classroom observation.This research institute compiles the test tool for "the first grade word recognition ability test paper" with five subjects and 22 exercises,which examines the students in the word recognition ability to recognize the word form,to read the word and to recognize the word meaning separately.After establishing the initial test questions,implementing the predicting test,inspecting the predicting test quality and correcting the test tool,finally the author forms the formal test tool and carries on the formal test implementation.By test data analysis,it is found that the current situation of the word recognition ability of the first-grade students has the following problems: the students are easy to have difficulty in identifying the similar words;They are unfamiliar with the words learned earlier;They are easy to confuse the meaning of the words from the same topic;The words with more syllables are easy to affect students’ word reading;The words separated from the pictures are easy to cause trouble to the students’ word reading.At the same time,it is found that there is a certain relationship among the abilities of word form recognition,word reading and word meaning recognition.On the basis of the research results,this paper analyzes the causes of the problems from different aspects of students and teachers,and puts forward the corresponding countermeasures.First,cultivate students’ finger-pointing reading habits;Second,optimize the way of presenting words;Third,pay attention to the integration of new and old words;Fourth,design effective word activities;Fifth,promote the phonetic teaching of words. |
