This essay originates from my doubts over the virtual female images in the current society. We are in an age of human bodies which seem to be the embodiment of sex only.In the visual appreciation of the public culture, the images of woman bodies are consumed everywhere in mere aspects of sexual appeal and external existence. This essay, referring to theories from Foucault and others, intends to discuss woman images from all times and in various media,to find out the changes of long-standing woman issues in essence and form after entering into digital times.By analyzing the similarities and differences between the digitally created virtual female images and the previous ones, this essay aims to figure out the meaning for their existence. This essay reviews the changes in the concept of body since Greek times, analyzes the female images from Willendorf s Venus to Hatsune Miku, and the process of their creation to virtualization. These images also include sculptures that reflect and satisfy people's needs of worships,"virtual woman" like Marilyn Monroe created by film studios and consumed by the public,as well as the forever 16-year-old girl Hatsune Miku.Through analysis on these phenomena, the trend of virtualization of women is concluded.Meanwhile, with theories of power/discourse and bio-politics,the author probes into how these diversified virtual female images form their unique manifestation with special codes in such complicated history and multiple media, and dig out the complex power relations among them in the discourse system.
