Josquin des Prez is one of the representative composers of the Franco-Flemish schools in the Renaissance. His paraphrase mass“Missa de Beata Virgine”uses a variety of voice combinations, melodic sequence and canon imitate to transform, breaking the limitation that the monophonic chant fixed in a single voice(usually a fixed voice),so that it can be incorporated into the multi-voice texture in a variety of forms. This way of composing directly promotes the emergence of the new type of mass that was parody mass.Josquin also uses the word-painting to shift the center of his composition from highly decorative melodies to a syllable accent of the lyrics and a harmonious relationship between words and music. He skillfully uses musical elements such as melody, voice and theme motives as tools for depicting lyrics or symbolizing specific emotions and characters to explain the content of the text and the religious connotation of the work.As a religious music dedicated to the Virgin Mary,“Missa de Beata Virgine”clearly shows the composer’s devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and faith to Christianity. This emotional appeal reflects the religious significance behind the Mass genre, and also reflects the social and cultural values system of the Renaissance.
