The literati “dry wood” paintings rised in the Song Dnasty and flourished in Yuan Dnasty.During the Northern Song Dynasty,Wen Tong and Su Shi's “Dead Wood” works opened the trend of later generations of literati painting with “dry wood”.Dead wood and bamboo stone have gradually become the classic theme of the literati painters.But before the rise of the subject,it experienced a long process of brewing.In the course of evolution,the artistic context of the image of “dry wood”has changed.The ancient pine tress in the theme of pine trees in the Tang Dynasty and the trees in the cold forest maps of the early Song Dynasty of the Five Dynasties all have the characteristics of “dryness”;they continue to descend from the times,and in the middle of the Northern Song Dynasty,“the dead wood” is accompanied by repairs,strange stones,and literati.The theme of the dead wood painting officially rose and reached its peak in the Yuan Dynasty.During the development of the “Deadwood”era,its artistic language and painting ideas have been continuously enriched and evolved.Therefore,this paper intends to sort out the development of “dry wood”paintings,and focus on the artistic style and aesthetic realm of the literati “dry wood”paintings in the Song and Yuan Dynasties from the aspects of pen,ink,composition,painting thought and painting function.
