Shanghai Coal and Charcoal Commercial Association is an industry group of coal trade merchants in Shanghai,and it is also a social intermediary organization that assists the government in economic regulation and market management.This association plays a significant role in ensuring the coal supply of Shanghai residents.However,in the early days of the founding of New China,the Association entered a critical stage of reform and adjustment.This research takes the association as the main subject.And along the different stages of its development,the study attempts to present the background,overview and working condition of the association.At the same time,the organizational structures and its main job after the off-icial establishment of the association in 1951 would be given more detailed introduction.In 1952,with the coal being classified as a state-owned material,the social function of Shanghai Coal and Charcoal Commercial Association was gradually weakened.Meanwhile the association itself and its members gradually accepted socialist transformation.After refreshing the association,it has lost part of its independence,and its function of coordinating the economic development of coal industry was replaced by the state-owned professional company,which named Shanghai Coal Construction Company.When the socialist transformation of Shanghai Coal and Charcoal Commercial Association and the coal trade merchants in Shanghai was completed,all the union members on which the association depends were lost,and the original personnel were arranged into the state-owned institutions.In the end,the commercial association ushered in a situation of disintegration.
