Since 19th century,painting has been largely impacted by photography,conceptual art and other newly formed ideas about art.Lots of artists,mainly painters,were perplexed about what they can do in the era.Around 1980s,violence,death and sarcasm about reality were the popular topics in England,yet Peter Doig chose to go the other way around,persisted in Easel Painting and used 2nd hand resources like photograph,trying to explore more about people's delicate emotion.The thesis of this paper," lonely traveler-a shallow interpretation about the creative process of Peter Doig." In this paper,the author talked about his life background,paintings,and more importantly the ways and techniques about how he converts 2nd hand resources into his work,trying to understand Doig's inner feeling and creative motives behind his blurred and dreamy paintings.Peter Doig's background and his works are the main focuses in chapter 1,the author uses those to discuss the theme and the origin of the emotion he's trying to express in his work;While in chapter 2,the author mainly talked about those 2nd hand resources,like photograph,movie or phonograph record,Doig often used in his work,and how he extracts emotions from those things and infuse those feeling in his own work;Lastly,in chapter 3,the author starts from the specific techniques and painting methods Doig usedin his work,thoroughly examines how he extracts image and express emotion in his paintings,and the creative process behind it.
