"Blank" is widely used in Chinese traditional art and western contemporary art.Its main meaning is blank,empty,and non-existent.Formally,it shows that there is a certain blank in the picture,or in the picture,a large area or even all of the painting covered with white to achieve a certain visual and spiritual impact.。The blank picture will produce the blank picture space,the blank sculpture or the action device work will produce the blank effect in the real three-dimensional space.This paper briefly analyses the main ideas of the application and embodiment of "blank" in western contemporary art,and makes a brief analysis of the significance and value of "blank art".This article mainly divides into four chapters to sort out the blank:the first chapter starts from the basic definition of blank,leads to the origin of blank and its development in Eastern and Western art;the second chapter focuses on studying blank from several forms of artistic expression in western modern art;the third chapter explores blank on the basis of Western Aesthetic theory.The fourth chapter is about the understanding of blankness in creation through personal creative practice.As a way of expression,blank space is also a kind of philosophical accomplishment.It seems simple but contains huge philosophy,which is widely used in various fields.Based on the "blank" as a starting point,this paper briefly combs the blank art in western modern art,and applies it to the creation with its own ideas.
