Translation is an important force to promote the birth and development of modern Chinese literature. As a carrier of communication, translation in the May 4th period injected new ideas and culture into modern Chinese literature.Zhou Zuoren,as one of the most representative translators, occupied a large part of the translation works in the May 4th period.Zhou Zuoren formed literal translation, vernacular translation and career-oriented translation concepts in his translation practice. His translated works include ancient Japanese novels, poems, modern novels and folk literature.Since the writers were translators during the May 4th Movement, their dual identities made the relationship between literary creation and translated works more closely.Firstly, the infiltration of literary creation into translation, and the interference of writer’s identity in translation activities make translation special. The influence of literary creation on translation can be found in Zhou Zuoren’s Japanese literary translation works, including the characters’ images, language, poetry metrics and characters.Meanwhile, translation also migrates to literary creation, which makes literary creation heterogeneous.Zhou Zuoren’s literary creation is influenced by Japanese literary works in terms of language, content and aesthetics. There are also traces of Japanese literature in the creation of various literary schools related to Zhou Zuoren.New poetry and the birth of modern fiction are closely related to Zhou Zuoren’s translation of Japanese literature. |
