Research On Dong Deyong's "Ke Ru"

As the descendant of Confucian Dong Family in Siming of Yin County,Dong Deyong adhered to the family tradition of loyalty,took birds,beasts,insects and fish as the creation object,and completed the book Ke Ru by citing various authoritative works in the environment of "prosperity fading,corruption and bribery between literati and officialdom,and low morality”.In this paper,Ke Ru is taken as the main research object to conduct overall study of ideological and cultural connotation as well as the role of its persuasion and punishment through the methods of literature research,narrative research and quantitative analysis.This paper will be discussed in four chapters:Chapter One: the literary ecology of Ke Ru created by Dong Deyong.There is little information about Dong Deyong.Through the supplement of Dong Deyong’s learned family and his life story,this paper clarifies Dong Deyong’s life and life resume,thus defining the background of his creation of Ke Ru.On the basis of exploring the origin of the development process of birds,animals,insects and fish works,this paper discusses the reasons for the numerous works of this kind in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties,and then analyzes the social environment in which the scholars lived in the late Ming Dynasty and their mentality and motivation in creating birds,beasts,insects and fish.Chapter Two: Compilation and literary form of Ke Ru.At present,educational circles regard Ke Ru as a miscellaneous book or a novel,and there are different opinions.Therefore,on the basis of distinction of concept between miscellaneous works and novels,this chapter starts with 131 existing stories in Ke Ru,classifies the literature cited by it according to the literary genre to analyze the characteristics of its cited literature,thus clarifying literary form and type of Ke Ru.Chapter Three: Ideological and cultural connotation of Ke Ru.The book Ke Ru created by Dong Deyong stands out from numerous birds,beasts,insects and fish works in the late Ming Dynasty,which contains unique ideological and cultural connotations.Through the analysis of the image of birds,animals,insects and fish in Ke Ru,the author finds that Dong Deyong expressed his praise for loyalty,filial piety,chastity and righteousness and conveyed the thought of honoring and teaching etiquette.Chapter Four: Reference and inheritance of Ke Ru.The creation of Ke Ru cannot be separated from the reference of classical works in the previous generation,which not only in the reference of the creative intention and compilation method of Records of the Taiping Era,but also in the reference of Taishigong comments in Historical Records.Meanwhile,as a collection of birds,animals,insects and fish works,Ke Ru not only affects the creation of birds,animals,insects,fish works,but also has a profound impact on the creation of Strange Tales from a Lonely Studio and fable literature.
