This thesis looks into the theory of literary development in the principle of literature and art.What is doctrine? Doctrine is not a game of thoughts,but socialized opinions with judgments on values.The 20 th century can be seen as a century of doctrine-consciousness.Doctrines of every kind provide important resources of thoughts for writers and artists.Different from the characteristics of modern discourse of thoughts—which stresses pure theory,pure thinking and pure discipline respectively,doctrine is nurtured within the interactions with society,nationality(minzu)and discipline,especially with literature and art.Its core lies in the diagnosis and therapy of the disease of modernity,endowed with strong applicability in practice.Adhering to the research principle that judgments should be made based on history,the thesis finds that if we divide the history of world literary by the 20 th century,literary and artistic ideas before the 20 th century is a theoretical summary of literary and artistic creation,often lagging behind the latter;and after the 20 th century,it is rather noticeable that thoughts and doctrine are in the first place,especially the doctrine,that mainly leads literary and artistic creation.Thus here emerges a new law for literary and artistic development: the doctrine and theory comes first,leading literary and artistic creations.The relationship between doctrine and literary creation can be generalized as follows: doctrine leads literary and artistic creation and constitutes a significant source of thoughts for literary and artistic creation;the latter deepen and disseminate the social influence of doctrine.With its appeal for reflection,criticism and treatment of the defects in modernity,doctrine essentially contains the deepest psychological content in the society in effect.Henceforth,as soon as it comes into being,it will exert a wide range of impacts in the spiritual sphere of the society.Additionally,literature and art are the tentacles of the times,extremely keen to the motions of doctrine that indicates the trend of social thoughts.Thus,writers and artists tend to comply with the doctrine instantly,call for it and promote it passionately in the tide of the doctrine,which achieves enormous social effects.Literary works which adapt the trend of doctrine surge and reflect people's spiritual needs will become very popular and well-known,whereas those peculiar ones,created in a confined room of the ivory tower,will be ignored and left out.It is the doctrines of many kinds that guided the process of literary and artistic creation in the 20 th century,which has made great breakthroughs.Mao Zedong's Speech at the Yan'an Literature and Art Symposium is a classic text on the relationship between Investigationism and literature and art.It has both popularity and advancement,which guides the direction of contemporary Chinese literature and art creation.In accordance with the relation between doctrine and literary,contemporary Chinese literary and artistic creation should address the following points: confront people's life,and pay attention to the issues of "society";find domestic footholds,and carry forward the "national" spirit;take the advantage of diverse ideas,and lead the direction of "contemporary" literature and art.This thesis consists of four segments.The first part illuminates the "definition and characteristics of";the second part states "the generation of doctrine";the third part presents "the reflection of the relationship between doctrine and literary and artistic creation in the history of literature",and poses "the problem caused by the uproar of and the lack of doctrine in contemporary Chinese literary and artistic creation";the fourth part explores "the relationship between the doctrine and literary and artistic creation embodied in ‘The Speech'".The last part is the conclusion,concluding "contemporary Chinese literary and artistic creation calls for the guidance of doctrine".
