Heshun County is located in the eastern part of Shanxi Province and is the largest county in Jinzhong City.Heshun dialect is classified into two dialects of the east and the west by the boundary between Shihouling and Hanhuling. The eastern dialect area includes seven townships, namely Niuchuan,Weima,Pingsong,Yixing,Liyang,Songyan and Qingcheng. The western dialect area includes the remaining three townships: Mafang,Yangguangzhan and Hengling. The thesis takes the phonetics of Heshun western dialect as research object, using the field investigation method to try to show the phonetic outlook of the western dialect, describing and analyzing some of the phonetic phenomena. The paper is divided into six parts. The specific contents are as follows:The introduction presents the historical evolution and geographical population of the western Heshun, and summarizes the research status of Heshun dialect. It elaborates the purpose, object, scope of the paper, introducing source of the corpus and introduces information about dialect survey partners. The first chapter is about the phonetics system of the Heshun western dialect, which has a total of four sections, including the initial consonants, finals, tones and rhythm coordination etc. There are 22 initials(including zero initial)in the western dialect of Heshun, and 34 finals. The tones are divided into five categories: flat, upper, down, yin in,and yang in.The values are at 22,53,24,22?,53?.And use the form of the table to summarize the combinations of initials, finals, and tones in the Heshun western dialect,in order to accurately explain the phonetic features of the dialect. The second chapter is a synchronic comparative study of the Heshun western dialect, with a total of three sections.Firstly, the initial consonants, finals, tones are compared between the western dialect and the Mandarin.Next, the phonetics of the Heshun western dialect and the dialects of the surrounding areas are compared, and the two dialects in the big area and the Bingzhou are selected to make the synchronic comparisons.By comparisons,it is found that there is not yin and yang for the flat tone, and there is yin and yang for the in tone in the Heshun western dialect. The obstruent initial tones are unaspirated regardless of level and oblique. These characteristics are similar to the Yuci dialect in Bingzhou area of Jin Phonetics. Therefore, the Heshun western dialect is classified into Bingzhou area of Jin Phonetics and further the attribution of Heshun Western dialect is ascertained. The third chapter is a comparative study of the chronological comparison of the Heshun western dialect, with a total of four sections.Using the rhyme works such as Guang Yun,Zhongyuan Phonology and Chinese Phonology Research, the initialconsonants, finals, tones are compared between the medieval and modern phonetics, summarizing the historical evolution of the western dialect and revealing the dialect's evolution rules. The fourth chapter is the monographic study of Heshun western dialect, with a total of five sections. The first section of the new and old phonetic contrast, analyzing the differences from the perspective of initials, finals, and tones, finding the reasons for its occurrence;the second section is about the different voicing between Ancient Chinese and the Vernacula language, summarizing the rules from the two aspects of initials and finals; In the third section, the continuous change of the two-word group, from the non-overlapping to overlapping two-character words, revealing the law of its tone change;the fourth section, the study of the Erhua rhyme and the Erhua tail rhyme, and the syllabic syllable in the western dialect. The Erhua tail rhyme is gradually replaced by the Erhua rhyme, showing the trend of developing into the Mandarin features;the fifth section, the study is based on the comparison between the sub-tails of the two dialects of Heshun east and west, getting a conclusion that the west dialect has only sub-tails,no sub change rhyme. The conclusion part summarizes the phonetic research of this paper, systematically elaborating the phonetic features of the Heshun western dialect, pointing out the shortcomings of the paper, and putting forward the direction and prospects of future researches.
