A Probe Into Boudoir Politics And Female Subjectivity In "A Dream Of Red Mansions"

Chinese classical texts have fewer female resources and even much less female subject resources.Therefore,how to make academic circles attach importance to traditional female resources and provide references for the current construction of female subjectivity is a relatively significant research subject.From the perspective of China-west combination,this thesis makes a comparatively comprehensive analysis on boudoir women's situations.With the combination of Western Feminist theories on the basis of summarizing the related resources of traditional Redology,this thesis also makes a tentative study of summarizing boudoir women's relative subjectivity within their situations.The researches for Dream of Red Mansions are quite scarce from the perspective of pure feminism.This thesis makes its exploration by drawing on Criticism Theory of Traditional Redology on the one hand and adopting Western philosophical theory on the other hand.Besides,this thesis is oriented within the Western Feminist Philosophy,which not only provides a reference for the future feminist subjectivity,but also enriches the Redology researches.In order to make a comprehensive analysis of the relative subjectivity of boudoir women in Dream of Red Mansions,it is necessary to understand these females' living spaces and their daily-life situations.This thesis intends its analytical exploration by case study of these boudoir women's(unmarried and married)spatial form,subject characteristics and resistance against discourse power and so on.Along the process of exploration,from the Western philosophical viewpoints such as Bovova' s subject theory,Foucault' s power discourse and so on,Introduction Part of this thesis makes a theoretical analysis of unmarried women in Dream of Red Mansions within the framework discourse of traditional patriarchy,revealing relative subjectivity in virtue,temperament and ability.In order to demonstrate all the boudoir women's life situations,Section I and II of this thesis make a case study of married women's life situations,and concludes that,although these married boudoir women have more space for subjectivity manifestation in the discourse framework of "Three Compendiums" and " Three Conformities and Four Virtues",they are actually more shackled by the patriarchal frame,becoming the "accomplices" of male discourse.On this basis,this thesis makes a further analysis of these boudoir women's situation,their daily life of women,the conflict between free love and polygamy,the sister friendship between women,the situation of maidservants,revealing these boudoir women's overall morphological characteristics.Furthermore,by questioning women's virtues of Xue Baochai,Li Wan and Qin Keqing,Section III of this thesis explicates these boudoir women's problems within the male discourseWith the construction of subjectivity,these boudoir women's anti-resistance practice is extremely significant.Therefore,within the framework of Theory of Power Discourse proposed by Foucault,Section IV of this thesis analyzes the boudoir women's resistance under male discourse.Apart from that,Section V of this thesis argues these women's limitations of female consciousness in Dream of Red Mansions,such as the limitation of female body's description,the limitation of Jia Baoyu's attitudes towards these women,the limitation of these women's "accomplices" roles,even using male-dominated discourse framework to pursue their own personal possession.As a whole,this thesis presents the panoramic picture of feminism and affirms the positive feminist consciousness in Dream of Red Mansions.This thesis puts forward some worthwhile exploring topics and shows concern to these boudoir women's relative subjectivity in Dream of Red Mansions under the traditional Redology,shedding light on sorting out and excavating the female subject resources in the traditional society.In this sense,this thesis makes its deserving contribution to supplementing the study of Dream of Red Mansions from the perspective of China-West combination,which is expected to broaden the future feminist research in China.
