In the Republican period between 1912 and 1935,our country once issued the local folk currency among the people,historically called “private money”,with the same functions of circulation,payment and exchange as fiat money,which is different from those issued by financing institutions such as national central governments and entrusted banks.The face patterns differ from local customs and practices,traditional customs and regional culture to geopolitics,with rich and colorful themes and varied and abundant pattern elements.Meanwhile,in combination of eastern and western cultures,the private money abundantly emerges elements in its face patterns,presenting a miniature integrated with Chinese and Western cultures.The illustration art of the folk private money is delineated on paper with painting and print languages.As a presswork of print forms,the folk private money relies on the print language to present,namely through patterns and illustrations,sculpture and plate making,the patterns are printed with ink on paper,in the form of paperbacked industrial art.With the research of fine arts,we study the folk private money,emphasizing both its ontology and its surroundings during the same periods,focusing not only on the impacts towards later generations,but also on the analysis and research of fact or fiction,as well as on the similar things in other countries and regions.On this account,it acts as a researching extension of illustration art of the folk private money.The history of the folk private money is not only the history of financial currency and the history of printing,but also the evolution of the style of illustration art.
