Since the 20th century, with the development of postmodernism and the rise of the right-to-power movement, religious studies have presented a scene of prosperity. It has already broken through the limitations of traditional paradigms and objects of traditional religious studies, and feminism,post-modernism,post-colonialism and other religious studies have grown. On this basis, the critical religious movement with the Stirling Institute of Religion in the United Kingdom as its core also began to rise. The Critical Religious Movement began in the 90s of the 20th century and is represented by the religious scientist Timothy Fitzgerald.Through his early studies of religions in Japan and India,he opposed the universal definition of "religion" that traditional religious studies insisted on.Based on this,he put forward a critique of the concept of traditional religious studies. The purpose of this article is to briefly review the theories and ideas of several representative figures who criticize the religious movement by examining the concept of "religion".This article will examine the critical religious movement through the three parts of postmodernism, postcolonialism and feminism. The first chapter mainly discusses the theoretical background and related research trends of critical religions. The second chapter introduces the definition of "religion" in traditional religious and critical religious movements, and summarizes the characteristics of critical religious studies. The third chapter will examine the critique of religious concepts by different critical religious scholars through the four dimensions of postmodernism, analytical philosophy, gender and feminism, and politics and post-colonialism.The fourth chapter will be a simple comparison of critical religious studies and Western Marxist Bible studies. The fifth chapter is my reflection on critical religious movements and the significance of critical religious studies on our country's religious studies. The Critical Religious Movement conforms to the historical trend of post-modern pluralism, reflects on the shortcomings of traditional religious studies from multiple dimensions, and highlights the position of non-Western centralism. It has certain reference value for the religious academic circles in China.
