Design And Research Of Shehuo Mashao's Facial Makeup Art And Derivatives

Fire Mashao's Face,originated from Baoji,Shaanxi province is a representative art with special historical status.The artistic themes of Fire Mashao's Face are mainly originated from traditional folk stories,and most of the characters from <The Legend of Deificatio> are upright with high supernatural power.The modeling of Fire Mashao's Face exhibits strong folk art style of Shaanxi,with bright color and strong contrast.The graphic symbols of Fire Mashao's Face are mainly the patterns containing Chinese traditional cultural implication,such as Ruyi and bat patterns.The homophonic and symbolic means express the expectations of desire and beautiful long cherished wish of Shaanxi people,including go after gain and avoid harm,favorable climatic weather,and wealth-life.Based on the simple folk emotion,Fire Mashao's Face is inherited via the community's fire culture,and becomes a local folk etiquette culture and totem symbol.Meanwhile,the art form of Fire Mashao's Face also typically represents the local folk beliefs,customs and aesthetic tastes.In this study,the manufacturing process of Fire Mashao's Face was investigated,the artistic images were arranged based on interviews of folk artists,and the artistic features were concluded from the angles of color,pattern,structure,etc.Then,market research was performed on the art derivatives of Fire Mashao's Face.To combined with market research findings,the design deficiency and development direction of derivatives were analyzed.In order to protect and inherit the folk art vulture of Fire Mashao's Face in a better way,a series of Fire Mashao's Face derivatives were developed by taking Chinese zodiac as the design streamline.We combined the traditional cultural elements with modern design to achieve the artistic effects of both practical and aesthetic.
