Research On Chinese Culture Teaching At The Confucius Institute At The University Of Zimbabwe

Confucius Institute at Zimbabwe University is one of the earliest established Confucius Institutes in Africa founded in 2006.Confucius Institute at Zimbabwe University is a joint venture of Renmin University of China.It was established through sponsorship and authorization of the Hanban in Africa,and its aims include promoting,expanding and providing Chinese language learning and teaching Chinese language and culture.From 2013 to 2015,I studied Chinese language and culture at University of Zimbabwe Confucius Institute.At University of Zimbabwe Confucius Institute.I found some unsatisfactory areas in the learning of Chinese as a second langua,ge.One of the challenges being the study and teaching of Chinese culture.The most important purpose of Chinese culture as a second language is to understand not only the basic knowledge of Chinese language and culture but also how to cultivate students’ communicative competence and intercultural communicative competence.Therefore,there is enough communicative ability to overcome the communicative difficulties arising from different cultures.The true purpose of this study is to research on the.teaching and learning of Chinese culture at the University of Zimbabwe.The main focus is on the teaching methods used,the cultural activities conducted,the teaching material provided to the students and also the learning hours allocated to this course Hence proposing new ideas and suggestions for its teaching.It was also important to research on the aspect of intercultural communication and how it affects the learning and teaching of Chinese culture.In the study of these difficulties i used questionnaires to survey and investigate the situation of students.
