Aggressive behavior has been widely focused by people from all walks of life.Self-esteem,as an important characteristic of individuals, has a complex relationship with aggressive behavior. This study explored the influence of self-esteem and self-threatening on attack propensity. The study consists of three parts:In Study 1,the effectiveness of the implicit association test(IAT),which would be used in this study to measure implicit self-esteem,was tested, and the dual structure model of self-esteem was tested. The results showed that the subjects' response time of the self-words was significantly lower when it was classified with positive words as a class than it was classified with negative words as a class;while the response time of non-self-words was significantly lower when it was classified with negative words as a class than it was classified with positive words as a class;there is no significant correlation with explicit self-esteem and implicit self-esteem.Study 2 tested the validity of the preference group lexical measurement to measure attack propensity, and explored more effective methods to measure the attack propensity on the basis of it.The results showed that when the preference group lexical measurement was used, subjects selected significantly more attack words than neutral words, and the times of different positions that have been selected was significantly different. On this basis, the method of judging the truth or false of words was designed, and the results showed the individual's response time is significantly faster when judging the true or false of attack words.Study 3 used 2(explicit self-esteem:high,low)*2(implicit self-esteem:high,low)*2(self-threating:yes,no)between subjects design to explore the influence of self-esteem and self-threating on attack propensity. The results showed that the self-threating had significant main effects,The attack propensity of self-threatening subjects was significantly lower than that of subjects without self-threatening;explicit self-esteem and self-threating interaction significantly,For individuals with high explicit self-esteem,the attack propensity when there was a self-threatening was significantly lower than that without a self-threatening situation. However, for individuals with low explicit self-esteem,there was no significant difference in attack propensity in the presence or absence of self-threatening situations.Types of self-esteem and self-threating interacted significantly, the subjects with high explicit and high implicit self-esteem had significantly lower attack propensity in self-threatening situations than those without self-threatening situations. The conclusions are as follows:(1)The method of judging the truth or false of words is effective to test the attack propensity.(2)There is no significant correlation between the levels of self-esteem and the attack propensity, but when faced the situation of self-threating,the attack propensity of the subjects reduced significantly.(3)The subjects with high explicit and high implicit self-esteem significantly reduced attack propensity in self-threatening situations, while the other three types of self-esteem subjects have no significant difference.
