The Influence Of Self-construction Type And Social Distance On Self-punishment

Self-punishment is complex social psychological behavior and its influencing factors is diverse,past researches probe into the negative emotions,compensation chance,compensatory opportunity at the expense of others,victim's presence,shame-proness and gender factors on the impact of the self-punishment.Independent self-construal individual has the characteristics of "self-centered " and interdependent self-construal individual has the characteristics of " to others as the center ",therefore,there may be individual differences between them in terms of the self-punishment.Social distance is an important common factor in interpersonal communication,social distance affect individual's guilt,guilt affect individual's self-punishment,so the social distance may affect individual's self-punishment.Therefore,this thesis will respectively gradually discuss whether self-construal,social distance,and the interaction between the two have any influence on the self-punishment,and what role does guilt play in them.This paper takes freshmen as the research object and adopts the adapted dictator game paradigm,including four experiments.Experiment 1,as a basic research,referring to the overseas research,the university students in China as the research object,to explore whether there also will be self-punishment after unintentional violation;In experiment 2,the independent and interdependent self-construal individuals were selected as the study objects to explore the influence of self-construal type on self-punishment,namely,whether there is a difference in self-punishment between independent and dependent self-construal individuals.Experiment 3,by manipulating the distance of social distance(close social distance,good friends are partners;distant social distance,strange human are partners),to explore the influence of social distance on self-punishiment,that is,whethe there is difference between them,and whether guilt has mediating effect between social distance and the self-punishment;Experiment 4 to select independent and interdependent self-construal individuals as the research objects,and by manipulating different social distance,to explore whether the influence of social distance on the self-punishment exists difference between independent and interdependent self-construal individuals,and whether independent self-construal individual's guilt has mediating effect between social distance and their self-punishment.The results are as follows:1.In case of unintentional violation,a self-punishment will occur,and the percentage of self-punisher and the degree of the self punishment are higher than that of no breach.2.Self-construal types has an effect on the self-punishment,interdependent self-construal individuals' percentage of self-punisher and the degree of the self-punishment are higher than that of independent self-construal individuals'.3.Social distance has an effect on self-punishment.Under the condition of close social distance,the self-punishment of individuals is higher than that of distant social distance,and guilt has a complete mediating role in it.4.There is difference between the impact of social distance on self-punishment and the role of guilt in it,between independent and interdependent self-construal individual.Independent self-construal individual has higher self punishment degree in close social distance,and guilt in which has partial mediating effect;There is no self-punishiment diffrence between diffrent social distance condition for interdependent self-construal individual,and guilt,no role in it.
