A Comparative Study Of The Exegesis Of "Mengzi Jizhu" And "Mengzi Ziyishuzheng"

Mencius Variorum and Meng Zi Zi Yi Shu Zheng produced in the Song and Qing dynasties were written by Zhu Xi and Dai Zhen.Zhu Xi's and Dai Zhen's exegetical philosophy and academic styles can be analyzed from the two books.Exegetical features of the Song and the Qing Dynasty are presented in the two books.Based on the exhaustive analysis in the two books,the dissertation will compare and explore the manifestation and causes of the similarities and differences in the exegetical aspect,and provide evidence and supplements for exegetical achievements and the researches on the history of exegetics.This dissertation is divided into three parts.The first part is the introduction.It introduces the general situation and development of their editions of Mencius Variorum and Meng Zi Zi Yi Shu Zheng,confirms the basics of this study,expounds research results and the significance of this topic and explains the research methods and deficiencies.The second part describes the five aspects fromexegetical contents,methods,ways,terms,forms and styles,and analyzes their similarities and differences.Based on the second part,the third part explores the causes of similarities and differences of Mencius Variorum and Meng Zi Zi Yi Shu Zheng in the above five aspects.Finally,the values of Zhu Xi's and Dai Zhen's personal exegetical achievements and the study of the history of exegetics are clarified.In total,both Mencius Variorum and Meng Zi Zi Yi Shu Zheng are exegetical principles.However,the emphases are different.The former relying on the framework of the text(Mencius)ties up words,phrases and sentences,interprets principles with the text and guides readers to comprehend them following the order of the text.While the latter breaks the bondage of the text and rearranges the text with the key words(ie,the core concepts)and guides the readers to interpret the Mencius with the annotator's train of thought.The former employs annotations based on the development of the text meanwhile the latter recreates the text by means of embodying it in practice.The former employs annotations based on the revealment of the text meanwhile the latter recreates the text by means of embodying it in practice.Under their respective exegetical forms,there are many common characteristics and individual differences in exegetical contents,methods,ways,terms as a result of the time reason and the personal factors of Zhu Xi and Dai Zhen.The exegesis of the Song Dynasty had not broken away from the tradition of words exegesis of the Han and Tang Dynasties.While the exegesis of the Qing Dynasty emphasized textual criticism and argument.However,paying attention to the relationship between the sound and meaning of words and the exploration and interpretation of the meaning of sentences is the common contents of the two times.In addition,the reasons for the similarities and differences include Zhu Xi's and Dai Zhen's personal exegetical ideas,original families,and acquired learning,etc.
