Classical calligraphy works are the sources of calligraphy studying materials.Among those classical calligraphy works that could be handed down from ancient times,Boyuan Tie is the only work with its writer's signature of Wang Xun who was from Langya County in Eastern Jin Dynasty.In the long history of inheritance of Chinese calligraphy,the "Two-Wang" style which was represented by Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi has great influence in the majority of Chinese calligraphy history.It has been an important content for traditional calligraphy studying to research and study "Two-Wang" calligraphy.Boyuan Tie is a significant model to study for the style of "Two-Wang" learners.This thesis focuses on different aspects of Wang Xun and his Boyuan Tie.Wang Xun had much been influenced by Eastern Jin Dynasty with legendary characteristics and Boyuan Tie also contained a wealth of information.All the characters of the copybook look like newly finished,vigorously and vividly.The structure of the characters looks like open and free but also regular and well-organized.The "Golden Ratio" was found in the characters through measurement.He had well-designed composition which has a sharp contrast.We can feel the sense of block in the intensive strokes while the sparse strokes are totally different.His method of the use of ink is surprisingly plain.From the overlaps of each stroke,it is obviously observed the orders of strokes.We could understand his thoughts from Boyuan Tie and explore the origin of his style combining with his era.Although it is an authentic copybook of a famous calligrapher of Easter Jin Dynasty,it is the first-hand data for us to study calligraphy of the people in Eastern Jin Dynasty.The thesis offers not only better understanding of Wang xun and Boyuan Tie but a new perspective to study classical calligraphy.Calligraphy is not only an expression of technique of writing but embodies the writers' literature cultivation and thoughts and emtions.Each one of us has different expressions in writing in different moments so that the handwritings become a significant carrier to record one's feeling in a special moment.The beauty of handwriting which could record one's mind becomes an art and a discipline.Not only can we find the beauty of Wang Xun's calligraphy from Boyuan Tie,but make his thoughts stood out markedly.His thoughts had been passing from generation to generation.Based on the comprehensive,specific and meticulous analysis and research on the characteristics of Boyuan Tie,the thesis has elucidated the cause of formation of its calligraphy style combining Wang Xun and his era.By analysis and comparison,the style of Boyuan Tie hasintegrated with the writer's thoughts and the characteristics of men of letters at that time.The thesis is significant to the modern calligraphy passing down and development through the research on its specific techniques and Wang Xun's thoughts and emotions.
