In Qing dynasty, Shen Fucan wrote in his work Catalogue of Engraved stone plate Collection ofMingye Shanfangtie:“The Copybook of Nishanyuantie is produced by Wang Juesi, who is his second childWujiu who collected and engraved, there is Zhang Jinyan, Gong Dingzi and Wujiu’s postscript in the tail,which states the copier-Lu Zitaichu, engraver-Zhang Ziqing, are all master-hand, really was an exquisiteworks of art.” This is the earliest introduction to The Copybook of Nishanyuantie. The gigantic engravingproject was begun in1651, completed in1659, lasted for nine years, the copybook is divided into10volumes, altogether79placards,18,000Chinese characters. The main content is predecessor placard,postscript, inscriptions and a small amount of essays prose, calligraphy view.The Copybook of Chunhuagetie is the earliest calligraphic copybook of a collection of various writingbrush calligraphy in China, known as the "source" of calligraphy copybook. Copybook of Nishanyuantie,won the reputation--one of the earliest personal copybooks of ancient various calligraphy masterpieces, hasthe profound influence to the later generations. It was Wang Duo and The Copybook of Chunhuagetie’sinteraction that breed the newborn together. Firstly, through the integration and analysis of the brushwriting technique features, this article try to express the relaxed and harmonious state in Wang Duo’s lateryears, after the fierce conflicts. Secondly, through analyzing the relationship between The Copybook ofNishanyuan and The Copybook of Chunhuagetie, the article tends to explore both of the two originsthoroughly, reproduce Wang Duo’s learning method and the reason why Wang Duo choosing The Copybookof Chunhuagetie as his learning objective and its influence. The article tries to guide the reader tounderstand the tough process--the traditional learning, violent conflict and fission, creative reconstruction,Wang Duo’s calligraphy life returned to the long ancient tradition finally. Thirdly, The Copybook ofNishanyuantie could completely reflect Wang Duo’s learning methods of the calligraphy–-from theancient tradition to realize new content, focusing on learning from Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi and learnextensively. The Copybook of Nishanyuantie is the best reflection of the process which Wang Duo’scalligraphic style from steep to calm. It is a good reference to our conception and method about calligraphic learning. Finally, combined with some bad phenomena in contemporary calligraphy, The Copybook ofNishanyuantie could give more inspiration to different levels of calligraphers group.Through studying The Copybook of Nishanyuantie comprehensively, the paper not only provides acertain amount of tranquilizer to the current impetuous and utilitarian calligraphy community, but alsoinspires us to think the essence of calligraphy and how to treat the ancient saints and their masterpiecescorrectly. The Copybook of Nishanyuantie could reflect the image of Wang Duo’s calligraphycomprehensively and objectively after the traditional reconstruction,“the spirit of The Copybook ofNishanyuantie" gives us a lot of thinking, its significance should not be overlooked.
