Research On Roger Ebert's Chinese Film Criticism

The Chinese—language films reviewed by Roger Ebert— “the first movie critic in the United States” are the research foundation of this paper.This paper is going to explore the development of Chinese films under the perspective of extraterritorial perspectives,the characteristics of the film reviews by Roger Ebert and discuss the internationalization of Chinese films in the context of globalization.This article is based on the books of Roger Ebert's "life itself","wake up in the dark"," great movies" and Roger Ebert's Chinese—language film reviews.The theory Based on the "criticism consciousness" of the "Geneva school".This paper is to write and explore from the following ideas: Firstly,quantitative research was conducted based on the textual statistics of the film review by Roger Ebert,that is,basic data statistics and analysis,which are applied to the exhaustive method and NLTK processing tools;Secondly,qualitative research based on the content of Roger Ebert's Chinese—language film reviews,namely,content mining and research.Thirdly,based on the critical consciousness of "Geneva school",discussing Roger Ebert's criticism consciousness,criticism angle and method and the style and technique of his critical language.Thus,the paper answered the questions for the Chinese—language film reviewed by Roger Ebert: " What did he notice? What has been evaluated? " And " How to evaluate? What dimensions to evaluate? " And " what comment methods have been used? What are the characteristics of comments? "In the exordia part,the author explains the research status of Roger Ebert and his movie reviews and defines 63 Chinese-language films and movie reviews as the original research scope.In the first chapter,the data,statistics and processing of 63 Chinese-language film reviews are analyzed.From the aspects of attention,score and keywords,Roger Ebert's attention to Chinese-language films and its changes are analyzed.Roger Ebert's attention to Chinese-language films has gradually increased,and its evaluation has been timely and pertinent.The status of Chinese films in the international market has improved over time.In the second chapter,the author summarizes the characteristics of Chinese-language films ' external communication and Roger Ebert's attitude towards Chinese-language films from the two important dimensions of type and director in the content of film reviews.Image,culture,historical wonder and expression of human common emotion are the advantages of Chinese-language films in the external communication.Roger Ebert also points out the defects in the narrative structure and characterization of Chinese-language films.At the same time,the brand effect of the directors can help the directors to grow internationally.In the third chapter,in the critical theory,the author explores Roger Ebert's critical consciousness,the angle and method of criticism,and the use of the critical language.In the practice of film review,Roger Ebert respects the objective characteristics of the works and the noumenon of the movie,and tries to achieve the combination of the subjective consciousness of the critics and the creator's subjective consciousness,so as to bring the two aspects ' consciousness together.Roger Ebert attaches importance to the position of readers and spectators.His reviews start from multiple angles and he is good at using comparative analysis to explain his intentions.His critical language is both popular and professional.In the process of movie reviews,Roger Ebert is good at using all kinds of rhetorical skills and grasping the language well.
