Research On "Sirens Art Studio" From The Perspective Of Feminism

The creations of the “Siren Art Studio”,a feminist art group in the mid-term and later period of 90's,has distinctive feminist characteristics :the concepts revolved around sex,gender identity,lesbianism and so on.The contents discussed the actual status of women,and even spoke for the rights and interests of women.But its creations and the related critical activities were always based on western feminist art practice and western feminist theories,directly resulted in its subject matters,methods of expression,and ideology were limited historically,and eventually led to the dissolution of the studio.The establishment of the studio was a united attempt of artists and critics.The criticism contributed to the formation of the studio and supported theoretically in spiritual will.But at the same time,the change of criticism standard also changed the original creation idea of the studio subtly.There are reasons as follow: on the hand,the criticism system of contemporary feminism is mainly on the basis of the West and lacks local roots.On the other hand,art itself originates from its unique cultural context and reality context,“Siren Art Studio” is a derivative of all circles of society paid close attention to women's problems and academic circles paid close attention to feminism theories in the mid-to-late 1990 s.Today,the rationality of feminist art is still under debate.To protect the artistic values of works,to make the feminist art fit to the present artistic environment and social reality,and to reflect the characteristics of the times is the most urgent issue of the existence of the contemporary feminist art should be solved.
