SubjectiveBuddhist classics contain rich ancient Indian medical ideas and practical theories that can be used for reference in clinical operation, but because of the standardization of Buddhism itself and the limitations of human understanding of religion, the medical thought in Buddhist scriptures has not been well recognized and accepted in the whole social culture. However,in the cloak of religion,Buddhism has a very detailed exploration of the truth of life and the universe,a very precise knowledge of the human physiology and psychology,a lot of information about diagnosis, treatments and nursing of diseases,as well as the mental and psychological regulations, and so on.It tries to dig out the professional and practical theories from many aspects and dimensions,in order to fit in with the clinical practice, and then contribute to the cause of maintaining human health.MethodsBased on the medical content of “Yogacarabhumi-Sastra”,this paper makes a comprehensive study on it from the angles of modern medicine, biology, traditional Chinese medicine,psychology,etc.Results1 Buddhism's unique views on the phenomenon of life in the universe. From the physiological point of view, the "Four Great Elements" theory builds the material basis of the existence of life, including the external environment and the physiological tissue of the human body.Psychologically, the "Eight Consciousness" system explains "the occurrence(seed)of subtle psychological activities-the same psychological activities occur repetitively(internal and external causes),as a result behaviors and reacts on the psychological activity(new seed). At the same time,Buddhism also has a profound understanding of the process of the formation, development, and extinction of life. From the formation of the fetus, the production, the occurrence of neonatal diseases,to the aging and death of human beings, the corresponding physiological, pathological, and psychological changes of human beings would take place.2 Buddhism has records related to the etiology, treatment, nursing care and preventive health care of the disease. The etiology should be discussed from three aspects: internal cause, external cause and karmic cause. The treatment of the disease is quite religious, such as the use of meditation, focus on breaths, repentance and other ways to reconcile emotions,in order to treat the disease. The nursing of the disease is mainly reflected in the visit, condolences and care of the patient.Preventive health care includes both diet and sleep.3 Buddhism's understanding of physical and psychological diseases is mainly reflected in the emotional rebalance through cognition and behavior changes.Through the contemplation and introspection of one's behaviors, one can understand the nature of desire, then adjust desires and stop troubles.Conclusions1 Buddhism has a detailed observation of lives.Buddhist thinking on life can provide us with a new perspective to examine the meaning of life.2 Buddhism's understanding of disease, especially in terms of disease care and dietary health care, has a considerable reference value for modern medicine.3 These means of nourishing and regulating the mind, combined with modern Chinese medicine, will bring new perspectives in the traditional ways of healing. At the same time, the integration of valuable medical information with modern medicine can not only enrich the clinical diagnosis and treatment reasoning, but also guide the practice of health care.
