Background:The prevalence of hypertension in China is increasing year after year,which places a heavy burden on individuals and society.Nowadays,low-salt diet has been proved to be the most cost-effective strategy for controlling blood pressure.However,limited studies were conducted about the influencing factors of female's knowledge,attitudes and behaviors(KAB)on low-salt diets.This study,as a part of final survey of Project“Shandong-Ministry of Health Action on Salt and Hypertension(SMASH)",mainly focused on the knowledge,attitudes and behaviors on low-salt diets related females lived in northwest of Shandong province in 2016.Objective:1.To understand the basic level of knowledge,attitudes and behaviors on low-salt diets of female lived in northwest of Shandong province.2.Find out the key factors that influence these aspects and provide theoretical basis for the further development of related interventions.Methods:The data for this study was derived from the final survey of SMASH project,which carried out as cross-sectional survey by multi-stage cluster random sampling method in Shandong province.Questionnaires were used to collect information on the respondent's KAB of low-salt diets.Information like height,weight,and blood pressure were also collected as their basic characteristics.After cleaning the data from the database,the chi-square test was used to compare the differences in the proportions and the compliance rate between the KAB on the low-salt diets.Logistic regression was used to analyze the factors affecting these compliance rate.Results:First,females in the northwest of Shandong province had the highest knowledge rate(63.95%)of“low-salt diets lowering the blood pressure”_Compared to other approaches,females mostly obtained knowledge of low-salt diets from medical personnel.The knowledge's compliance rate of low-salt diets for females in the northwestern region was 43.7%.The multi-factor regression results showed that senior citizens,low income salary,living in rural areas and low-education level were unfavorable factors for knowledge attainment.Second,the female's attitude compliance rate in the northwestern region was 92.49%.Multi-factor results showed that low-income salary and lack knowledge of low-salt dietary were unfavorable factors for attitude compliance.“Reducing caused light taste”was the mainly reason for females disagree with low-salt diets.Third,females had the highest adoption rate(63.69%)of reducing salt intake while cooking,and among whom,97.79%of female chose to cut down the salt input when preparing the meals.The compliance rate of female with low-salt diets in northwestern region was 18.18%.Multi-factor regression results showed that low-education,living in rural areas,and non-compliance of knowledge and attitudes on low-salt diet were the unfavorable factors for the behavior of low-salt diets.Conclusion:Females in the northwestern region of Shandong province had a tolerable attitude toward low-salt diets.Nevertheless,in order to effectively improve the people's behavior compliance rate,further enhancing the information popularity of low-salt,diets for them,broadening their access to knowledge,and finding out targeted and appropriate intervention techniques,are still necessary.
