Although the debate about "who invented photography" has never stopped since 1839,there is no doubt that Britain, which advocated natural science in the late 18 th and early 19 th centuries, was one of the fertile soils for the birth of photography. Each of the pioneers and early photographers is a case worth digging into and learning from, and William Henry fox Talbot and Louis Jacques monde Daguerre are arguably the two most celebrated inventors when it comes to focusing on the "starting point" of photography,1839.Among them,Talbot and his book "The Pencil of Nature" is a complete "case".This thesis aims to research Talbot's contribution of photography and explore his contemporary research.Taking "The Pencil of Nature" as the main subject of discussion, taking the origin of photography as the basis, returning to the ontology of photography, rethinking the development of photography from science to art, from concept generation to technical practice. This paper studies the process of writing The Pencil of Nature, discusses how Talbot conveyed his ideas of photography through photographs and words through the ontology of photography, and expounds the influence of this book. The nature of the brush condensation Talbot self-thinking of photography,by analyzing the Talbot museum and database structure, expanding horizons to the context of contemporary digital research Talbot,in the process, constantly thinking about photography of original meaning, explore the context of the purpose of photography, such as diversification into the birth of a new art form.
