Vehicle chassis tuning is one of the most important part in the vehicle development.It’s the main method to determine the final performance of the vehicle.In this paper,a virtual prototype model is used to optimize the suspension system of a light truck chassis.Combined the real vehicle tuning,the final tuning scheme is confirmed.Firstly,the multi-body dynamics model of the light car was established in ADAMS/Car.The modeling method of the transverse leaf spring was developed,and the parametric modeling of the transverse spring and the longitudinal longitudinal spring was realized.Then the suspension models were validated by the suspension K&C test,and the full vehicle dynamic characteristics were validated by the objective handling test.Secondly,a multi-objectives optimization of the suspension system were made based on the validated vehicle model.The optimization objective of the vehicle was determine,d by the analysis of the suspension K&C characteristics and the objective test of the vehicle.The Kriging surrogate model was constructed based on Latin hypercube design.Then multi-objective optimization for suspension system was performed with NSGA-Ⅱ genetic algorithm,and the Pareto optimal was obtained.Choose the five good optimization scheme as tuning schemes,because the vehicle have a bias for comfortable tuning,so choose the well performed of comfort tuning as the first scheme,the other four schemes as an alternative.Finally,the tuning schemes of tyre,suspension system,steering system were determined by the well-skilled chassis tuner.The tuning scheme of suspension system is approximately consistent with the optimization result,which proves the feasibility of using virtual prototype for virtual tuning.After the tuning,all subjective evaluation indexes of the vehicle have reached the target value and some exceed the target value,and most of the evaluation indexes surpass the benchmark vehicle.The chassis tuning is successfully finished.
