"Kunyu Gezhi"(????)is a scientific and technological book on mining and metallurgy translated by Johann Adam Schall von Bell(???)at the end of the Ming dynasty. The reference book,"De re Metallica"was written by the"father of mineralogy"Agricola in Europe. It was brought to China by Nicolas Trigault(???)and other missionaries.Li tianjing(???)and Johann Adam Schall von Bell, who were in charge of translation, requested several times to publish and implement the book in order to fill the financial scarcity.Although the book was generally considered to have been lost in the war at the end of Ming dynasty,it still occupied an important position in the history of science and technology exchanges between China and foreign countries.Fortunately,a manuscript of"Kunyu Gezhi"was found in Nanjing library in 2015,which brought the book back to the academic perspective. This article takes this "Kunyu Gezhi" manuscript as the main research object, and do a detailed study on it.From the aspects of finding mines, making reagents, burning utensils, smelting metal, etc.,systematically sorting out the technical content in the text. And it is compared with the ancient Chinese minerals and metallurgical classics, and hopes to further promote the academic research of this book.It can provide more understanding of China's metallurgical technology and mineralogical knowledge accumulation at that time, which will help us to rediscover and reconstruct "Research on Chinese traditional nature".This "Kunyu Gezhi" manuscript, not only in the technical knowledge of mining and metallurgy,is worth exploring, but also contains philosophical and scientific thoughts on mineral formation, which clearly reflects the translator's transformation of the original book of "De re Metallica".Under the influence of the "Shi Xue" of the late Ming Dynasty,"Kunyu Gezhi" is based on the traditional Chinese theory "Ontology of Chi",and starts from the "Si Yuan Xing(Four essential elements)" theory transformed by the missionaries. It has made an explanation of the causes ofmineral formation including the Chinese and Western philosophical thoughts. This kind of explanation is not only easier to accept by people at that time, but also reflects a kind of communication in the cultural exchange between China and the West in the late Ming Dynasty.
