Since the 20 th century, with the rapid development of economy and the rapid development of science and technology, the contradiction between man and nature has been constantly presented. However, merely slowing down the current rate of ecological deterioration is not the ultimate expectation of human beings, nor is it the goal to achieve the sustainable development of ecological environment and human civilization. How to realize the reversal of this trend and realize the harmonious development between man and nature is the ultimate value orientation of all people. Therefore, ecological problems have become a hot issue in contemporary academic research.Thinkers and theorists from various countries have revealed the origin of ecological crisis from different angles and explored the solution of ecological problems.Ecological marxism is the most influential school among them.Jonathan Hughes,an environmental theorist at the university of Manchester in the United Kingdom,is a prominent exponent of ecological marxism. His 2000 book Ecology and Historical Materialism focused on his ecological marxism. In this book,Hughes strongly refutes the views of many environmentalists that ecological problems are not within the scope of marxism and that marxism weakens human dependence on nature. He pointed out that ecological and environmental issues are also problems of marxism, and human dependence on nature is one of the important contents of Marx's historical materialism.Human dependence on nature and human influence on nature coexist in Marx's historical materialism.Locating human and human society in nature fully reveals the distinct ecological value and ecological position of historical materialism. In this paper,on the basis of reading Hughes' s book, revolves around the human rely on natural thought detail, starting from the two-way relationship between man and nature,to clarify the relation between man and nature ecological principle, the principle of ecological impacts and ecological principles, points out that human rely on natural has the general tendency of human centralism,is the central idea of Marx about the environment. And to rely on human nature as the breakthrough point, through the Hughes to ecological rely on principles of historical materialism, the text argument, rupture of marxist ecological refutation, idealism interpretation of historical materialism of criticism,Benton todisconnect between materialism and economic theory of criticism and criticism of Blackburn on production and the historical materialism of the criticism,Hughes on marxism human depend on the nature of thought of by powerful safeguard.Through the research,it is found that Hughes' thought of human dependence on nature fully affirms the ecological value contained in marxism, which is undoubtedly of great theoretical and practical significance to the study of ecological marxism and the solution of current ecological environment problems.Theoretically speaking,Hughes' thought of human relying on nature confirms the ecological value of Marx's historical materialism, enriches and develops the marxist view of nature, and provides a theoretical framework for the effective solution of contemporary ecological problems. In practice, the impact of ecological crisis and environmental problems on human survival and development has made all sectors of society fully realize the importance and urgency of ecological civilization construction.Environmental pollution and ecological destruction are not purely technical or financial problems, nor can they be realized by the transformation or improvement of a certain social link alone. In the process of promoting the construction of a beautiful China,Hughes' thought of human being relying on nature can provide new reference for us to overcome the ecological crisis and build the socialist ecological civilization.
