In order to meet the needs of the modern manufacturing industry,high speed and efficiency machining has become the inevitable trend of mechanical processing technology.Blunt tool edge can effectively strengthen the edge,lengthen tool life,increase the stability of the cutting process and improve the processed surface quality.The size of cutting tool edge is very small and its shape is very different after edge blunting,and the method and equipment for high precision detection of blunt edge are concerned by the industry.This project applies machine vision to micron-level detection of blunt cutting edge of carbide indexable blade.The detection system is composed of hardware and software systems.Based on the existing hardware foundation developed by an enterprise,the new hardware system with a special blade fixture is designed,and the measure error caused by the blade fixture is analyzed and calculated.The effect analysis of the original blade image and the Lab VIEW software processing analysis are performed,and the appropriate original image is selected.Image enhancement,image filtering,image segmentation,and edge detection processing of the selected original image are performed based on the analysis of the effect diagrams obtained by the image processing algorithms and the analysis of the related algorithms,and then the optimal algorithm is determined.On the established machine vision hardware platform,the visual development module(VDM)in Lab VIEW is used to develop image processing software system,which can realize the acquisition,processing,system calibration and parameter measurement of indexable blade images.The non-section and cross-sectional images of the cutting edge are extracted and measured by developed blunt blade edge detection system,and the difference of image measure results between non-section and cross-sectional images are very small.For further verification,the edges of five different type carbide blades are measured by the developed blunt blade edge detection system and Alicona automatic zoom three-dimensional surface measuring instrument(Infinite Focus SL),respectively,and the results of the two are quite consistent.The normal distribution function NORMDIST in Excel is used to fit the difference of the blunt cutting edge detection values of the five type indexable blades to verify the stability of the measurement system.The vision measuring system of indexable blade edge developed in this project shows good reliability and can be used for practical micron-level detection of blunt blade edge of indexable blades.
