The growth and development of children's head and face shape is a very important part of children's body shape development.Because children's skulls are fragile and hard to preserve, relatively complete children's skulls are rare in archaeological sites, which is also the main reason for the rare research on the age change of children's skulls in ancient times.A group of well preserved children's skulls have been unearthed in Zhagunluke cemetery in Qiemo,Xinjiang. Many skulls even have skin and hair left, including some children's skulls whose anterior fontanelle is not closed, which is very rare.It is of great significance for us to study the growth and development pattern of children's skulls in ancient times. In this paper, the skull of children unearthed in Zhagunluke cemetery in Qiemo,Xinjiang is taken as the research object. The age changes of the projection area of children's skull in different aspects in Zhagunluke cemetery are analyzed by SPSS statistical software, and the growth spurt period is analyzed. The results show that:?The projection area of the anterior view of the skull in children has a spurt growth period of 3-6 years and 12-15 years. The projection area of the frontal bone in the anterior view of the skull has a spurt growth period of 3-6 years and 12-15 years(transformation rate analysis)or only 12-15 years(multiple comparison results). The projection area of the maxilla in the anterior view of the skull has a spurt growth period of 3-6 years,6-9 years and 12-15 years;? The projection area of the superior view of the skull and the projection area of the right parietal bone of the superior view of the skull in children increased continuously, but not abruptly. The projection areas of the frontal bone and left parietal bone of the superior view of the skull were 3-6 and 6-9 years old, respectively;? The projection areas of the posterior view of the skull were continuously increased(except for the 9-11 age group). The projection areas of the occipital bone were 6-9 years old(analysis of transformation rate)or continuously increased but not abruptly(multiple comparison results). The projection area of left parietal bone was spurt growth in 12-15 years old.The projection area of right parietal bone was decreased in 9-11 years old group(except for 9-1 1 years old group),with no significant change;?The projection area of the bottom view of-the skull were continuously increased, but not abruptly. The projection area of the occipital bone has a spurt growth period of 3-6 years and 6-9 years(transformation rate analysis)or only at the age of 6-9(multiple comparison results). The projection area of the maxilla has a spurt growth period of 6-9 years and 12-15 years;? The projection area of the lateral view of the skull and the parietal bone(except 6-9 and 12-15 years old)has not spurt growth. The projection areas of frontal bone and sphenoid bone were 9-11 years old and 6-9 years old, respectively. The projection areas of occipital bone and temporal bone were 6-9 years old and 12-15 years old.The projection areas of zygomatic bone were 3-6 years old,6-9 years old,9-11 years old and 12-15 years old(transformation rate analysis)or 9-11 years old and 12-1 5 years old(multiple comparison results). In addition, the projection area of the anterior view(except 9-11 years old)?the superior view?the posterior view(except 9-1 1 years old)?the bottom view and the lateral view increases with the age,and the older, the less. This is consistent with the previous research results of some scholars,in line with the law of children's growth and development. In addition, this paper further analyzes the proportion of projection areas of different view of skull, and finds that the change trend of projection areas of different view with age is basically consistent with the above statistical analysis results, which verifies the results of variance analysis, multiple comparison and age-related change rate analysisThe development of the anterior fontanelle is an important part of the growth and development of children's skull. In this paper, the average size of the anterior fontanelle expressed by the average value(A+B)/2 of the sum of the diagonals of the anterior fontanelle was used in four children's skulls unearthed in the Zhagunluke cemetery. It was found that the closure of the anterior fontanelle was delayed or the anterior fontanelle was too large in the Zhagunluke ancient children.Combined with the relevant research and the ancient economic level, diet structure, geographical environment and other conditions in Zhagunluke area,it is concluded that this may be caused by the differences in times or geography. However, due to the small number of children's skulls and the lack of comparative literature, more research materials are needed to verify whether the conclusions are universal. In the discussion of the growth, development and age change of children's skulls in Zhagunluke cemetery, only the age change of the projection areas of different aspects of the skull, the proportion of the projection areas of each part and the size of the anterior fontanelle of four skulls are involved. These values are obviously not comprehensive enough. It is hoped that in the future, there will be more complete children's skulls and diversified methods to further explore the growth and development of ancient children's skulls and the age changes.
