At present, with the optimization and upgrading of industrial structure, the role of the tertiary industry in urbanization is increasingly strengthened.Tourism has become the most promising service industry with its high degree of industrial relevance, providing a powerful driving force for the new type of urbanization.Although the western region of China is an economically underdeveloped region,it has deep cultural accumulation and unique conditions for the development of tourism. The impact of tourism on new urbanization will be increasingly strengthened. At the same time, the development of the latter will in turn accelerate the development of the former, thus increasing the added value of tourism to related industries and stimulating economic development in the western region. Therefore,it is of great practical significance to explore the coupling and spatial relationship between the tourism industry and the new urbanization in the western region. The paper is mainly composed of six parts: The first part elaborates the research background and significance, domestic and foreign related research, research contents and methods, and innovations. The second part introduces relevant concepts and theories and elaborates the interaction mechanism between tourism and new urbanization. In the third part,on the basis of combing relevant documents and following the principle of index system construction, the new comprehensive evaluation index system of urbanization and tourism system is constructed; The entropy weight method is used to calculate the weight of each evaluation index. The linear weighted method is adopted to measure the comprehensive development level of tourism and new urbanization in the 11 provinces(municipalities)in the western region from 2007 to 2016,combined with the current situation of the development exploring the differences in the comprehensive development level of the two systems.Findings: The comprehensive development level of tourism and new urbanization in western provinces has always been increasing, but there are large differences between regions. In the fourth part,we use the coupled development theory and construct the evaluation model of the coupling degree of the two systems, measure the integrated values of the coupling degree of the two systems in the western region from 2007 to 2016,and analyze their dynamic changes from the perspective of time and space: The coupling of the two systems is well-coordinated,and the overall value and coordination level of the coupling coordination degree show a year-on-year growth trend, but there is a large gap between regions. In the fifth part, selecting the level of coupling coordination in 2007,2012 and 2016,through the spatial autocorrelation analysis to explore the spatial agglomeration characteristics of the coupling degree and the degree of similarity or difference between the adjacent provinces, finding: From the spatial distribution point of view, there is a significant positive correlation between the coupling degree of the two systems in the western region, and the provinces with high(or low)values of coupling coordination tend to agglomerate in spatial distribution.Among them, the degree of aggregation of HH clusters in the southwest region is more significant, and the LL clusters are mainly concentrated in the northwestern region. In recent years, the concentration of provinces with higher levels of coupling and coordination between the two systems has been strengthened, and the aggregation of provinces with low level has weakened. In the sixth part,on the basis of the foregoing analysis, the coupling and coordinated development of the two systems is divided into three types of development models: tourism-led,new urbanization-led,new-type urbanization, and tourism-assisted,then gives suggestions for the coordinated development of the two systems in the western region. The seventh part summarizes the conclusions of this study and points out the inadequacies.
