The rising of Information Age has led to profound changes in organizational structure and nature of work.Instead of pursuing long-term employment from a single employer, employees tend to pursue self-directed and values-driven careers. Thus,a new type of career pattern-protean career came into being. This career mode allows employees in organizations to lay greater emphasis on managing their own careers so as to enhance their marketability and pursue lifelong employability. With the new career background, the impact of protean career attitude on work outcomes is increasingly becoming a focus of scholars. This study examine the predictive effect of self-directed and values-driven career orientation on perceived marketability, exploring the mediating effect of career self-management,as well as the moderating effect of achievement motivation on relationship between predictor and mediator. This study can help employees with protean career orientation to understand the way to enhance marketability and help organizations find potential high-marketability employees to better implement their human resources strategy. This study extensively conducts literature review on the field of protean career at home and abroad. In this study,a questionnaire survey was conducted to collect data.According to reliable domestic and foreign measurement scales,402 samples of Chinese employees were selected and the collected data were analyzed by SPSS 22.0 and Smart PLS 3.0.The main findings are as follows.(1)The protean career orientation and career self-management have positive impact on perceived marketability;(2)career self-management plays an intermediary role on the relationship between protean career orientation and perceived marketability;(3)Achievement motivation moderates the relationship between self-directed career orientation and career self-management.
