Biometrics has been incorporated by several organizations as a security authentication feature, with its uniqueness to any user. These biometric data into templates are saved on databases, and these databases are centralized and controlled by a central authority. This biometric data collection is prone to three primary security attacks, such as fake template input, template modification or deletion, and channel interception by a malicious attacker. This thesis will secure an encrypted fingerprint template using the Advanced Encryption Standard(AES)algorithm and decentralize it with the blockchain and InterPlanetary File system(IPFS).To address the problem of attackers on a centralized database,we implemented the IPFS.The IPFS,a distributed file system, stores data on nodes using a Distributed Hash Table(DHT).The blockchain's slow transaction speed has restricted real-life uses, such as ample file storage, hence the merging with IPFS to store data hashes. The encrypted template is submitted to the IPFS and stored on the Ethereum network with its returned digest. The Ethereum network,as a consortium type of blockchain, allows the use of a smart contract. The smart contract helps the system to interact with Ethereum Virtual Machine for experimental purposes.Researchers and developers use Decentralized applications(DApps)as a platform to interact with the Ethereum network. The implementation of IPFS prevents storing the fingerprint template's raw state on the Ethereum network to reduce cost and identity theft. This procedure is an improvement of previous systems.By adopting a method of template hashing, the proposed system is cost-effective and efficient. The AES encryption algorithm upgrades the system's security, such that if the template is distributed on the nodes of the IPFS system, modification is far reached.Experimental findings reveal that,by encryption, hashing, and decentralization, the proposed method secures the fingerprint template.
