As a new networking technology for wireless access,wireless mesh network(WMN)is characterized by rapid deployment,self-organization,self-healing and strong compatibility.It can break through the limitations of the traditional wired access and realize non-line-of-sight transmission.Therefore,WMN has broad prospect of application.At the physical layer,Omnidirectional antenna is widely used in wireless mesh network for sending and receiving.Omnidirectional antenna has low signal transmission efficiency and interference among adjacent nodes,which limits network capacity.Smart antenna has the characteristics of high orientation,high spatial reusability and strong anti-interference.Introducing smart antenna technology in wireless mesh network helps to improve network capacity and bandwidth utilization.Firstly,the current research of smart antenna based wireless mesh network is analyzed and the IEEE 802.16 time slot scheduling mesh mode,which has less relevant research data,is chosen to be studied in this paper.Secondly,the basic knowledge of wireless mesh network and the operation of IEEE 802.16 time slot scheduling mesh mode are introduced,and the advantages and problems of the smart antenna are discussed.To guarantee the effectively use of smart antenna technology in time slot scheduling WMN,a smart antenna based quality of service(QoS)MAC protocol called SAQM is presented,SAQM mainly involves the network access process,the data transmission process of the node,available resources update process,and the method of distinguish business types specified by the standard in order to ensure QoS.With SAQM,the information storage,deaf nodes and new hidden terminal problems with smart antenna nodes are solved.Network performance is improved because SAQM can make full use of the advantages of smart antenna.According to SAQM,the network model is built by the Riverbed Modeler simulation platform,and the effectiveness of the SAQM is verified through the analysis and comparison of network performance.Finally,in order to put into practical use,the transplant scheme of the code in the Riverbed Modeler simulation platform into C language is provided.
