Since 2014,A-share has generated a lot of goodwill due to the M & A boom, but in 2018,the goodwill of many A-share listed companies stopped growing, and in January 2019,the listed companies collectively made a large performance loss, the main cause of the loss is goodwill impairment. The provision of huge goodwill impairment has an immeasurable and significant impact on business performance and investors. In view of the problem of goodwill impairment in China's listed companies, whether the comprehensive amortization method or the impairment test method is put on the agenda again. There are different opinions on the subsequent measurement methods of goodwill in the academic circles, which shows that the huge amount of goodwill and the risk of goodwill impairment in the capital market of our country have become an urgent problem to be solved.Based on this, the research topic of this paper is the problems existing in the subsequent measurement methods of Goodwill under the current standards, and analyzes the causes of the extreme behavior of goodwill impairment of listed companies. This paper analyzes the optimal path of goodwill impairment test, and provides suggestions for standardizing the subsequent measurement of goodwill and strengthening the decision-making relevance of goodwill information. In the existing research, scholars at home and abroad have discussed goodwill from various perspectives, which has a positive guiding role in the theoretical research and practical development of goodwill. However, due to the complexity of goodwill and many disputes in the current goodwill impairment method, the subsequent measurement method of goodwill still needs to be improved. The research idea of this paper is to first use the theoretical analysis method to sort out the evolution of the subsequent measurement method of goodwill and the comparison of its advantages and disadvantages,so as to provide a theoretical basis for the case study. Then combined with the overall goodwill and goodwill impairment characteristics of the media industry, this paper uses the inductive summary method and comparative analysis method to study the case enterprises. This paper analyzes the reasons for goodwill impairment and the problems existing in goodwill impairment. Finally, the paper simulates the impairment of Goodwill under the simplified impairment test method, and makes a comparative analysis with the impairment of goodwill actually accrued by enterprises,in order to provide reference for the improvement of accounting standards. The results show that:(1)due to the high premium, the growth rate of goodwill of media enterprises is faster than that of other industries, and the scale of goodwill is larger. However, the fierce competition and rapid development of its industry make its impairment risk greater, which is prone to the extreme behavior of goodwill impairment.(2)Based on the analysis of industry characteristics,it is found that the impairment of Zeus Entertainment goodwill is mainly due to the false high initial recognition of goodwill, the late target performance is not up to standard and the management has motivation of earnings management.(3)There is a lag in goodwill impairment and the test results are difficult to verify its rationality, and the disclosure of relevant goodwill information is incomplete.(4)In view of the confusion of goodwill, the most urgent task is to optimize the impairment test method, simplify the process of impairment test and refine the provisions of impairment test combined with quantitative description. The research value of this paper lies in enriching the theory of goodwill impairment, which has a certain practical value for standardizing the subsequent measurement of goodwill and avoiding the behavior of earnings management by withdrawing goodwill impairment.
