How to extract 3D regions of interest(ROIs)from color volume images is an interesting and challenging topic.It is an issue that must be solved urgently for particular fields,e.g.,the Virtual Human Project(VHP).The VHP was proposed by the United States National Library of Medicine(NLM).The ultimate research aim of the VHP is establishing a cellular-level virtual human tissue digitized human body,which would be very useful for new drug development,sports medicine,and industrial design,and so on.With the development of image processing technology,the region of interest can be extracted by a small number of interactive operations using image matting technology.However,the currently published matting methods are designed for two-dimensional images.Therefore,for the problem of 3D image segmentation,it is still necessary to manually draw the contour of the region of interest(human organ)on each image and complete the segmentation layer by layer.This process is a tedious work,which requires a lot of energy and time.If there is a direct segmentation method for 3D color volume image,the work efficiency will be greatly improved.Under this background,based on the idea of spectral analysis,this paper designs and implements a system of directly segmenting 3D color volume image data,which enables users to input a small amount of graffiti marks in the section image to extract 3D object model.This method uses serial slice image to construct 3D data,uses the minimum feature vector of Laplace matrix of image,calculates a set of basic matting components automatically through linear transformation,and defines image reasonably.Then,these matting components are used as building blocks,and meaningful foreground components are automatically selected based on a small number of user input graffiti marks,and the target segmentation region can be obtained through the combination of components.This is a process of extracting foreground objects from volume images and estimating the opacity of voxels covered by objects.Through the segmentation experiments of different parts of the human body,the validity and applicability of this method are proved.
