Machine News Writing: Study On News Authenticity Subject To "Mechanism" And "Organic"

In March 2016,artificial intelligence(AI)won the match between AI “AlphaGo” and world Go champion Li Shishi,which became an important node to enter a new stage of AI development.Therefore,“Internet +” is officially replaced by “AI +”.McLuhan believes that “the media is the extension of the human”.What you see becomes a TV newspaper;what you hear turns into a radio;and what you think about depends on electricity to extend the central nervous system of human beings.Machine news writing is an autonomous reporting program that uses algorithms to collect and process data,and finally generate news.At present,machine news writing has been widely used in the news reporting fields,such as disasters,earthquakes,and finance,which has impacted on traditional news writing.In the machine news writing,the traditional news theory often discusses news authenticity issue.In this dissertation,the author pays attention to investigate what is the relationship between them.The dissertation elaborates the concept,principle,current development,and practical exploration of machine news writing,and defines the “authenticity” of news authenticity,and illustrates the relationship between machine news writing and news authenticity with the help of the two concepts of “authenticity” of representation and “authenticity” of essence.On the one hand,machine news writing can reach the “mechanical” news authenticity.It can break the “fragmentary” and “mosaic” news authenticity in realtime news reports;and accurately judge and mark the source of news.It can remove the perceptual elements in news reports by using objective data and the most fundamental news elements,and can predict future news according to the past “user traces”,which promotes forward-looking and real development.The algorithm-based content production will no longer rely on the information collection of reporters,editors and other independent points,but through the real-time analysis of large databases,build a cross language,deep-level,global understanding model identifying things,representations and prediction authenticity,which breaks through the one-sided and local nature of human's “mental authenticity” in the past.Thus,the “symbolic authenticity” is infinitely close to the objective authenticity by simulation.On the other hand,the “organic” news authenticity is hard to be achieved in machine news writing.Although machine news writing can achieve news objectivity to some extent in the appearance authenticity,but for the interpretive and investigative news reports,there is a need to give full play to the reporter's subjectivity,and to reason the news facts and the truth layer by layer,and to concern about the interviewees' humanistic care.This paper mainly discusses from the following aspects: the fuzzy boundary of news authenticity in the intelligent era,the subjectivity of algorithm discrimination and prejudice,the process of machine rigid thinking deviating from news authenticity,the subjectivity “failure” of social construction,the lack of human connotation,and the lack of news authenticity system and integrity.At the end of the dissertation,we focus on the future development of machine news,and discuss the possibility that it can reach the authenticity of “organic” news.In the future of big data and algorithms updating rapidly,human beings need to avoid “technology determinism” and concentrate on more rational “human ability”.
