Passive radar can detect and identify targets without the self-allocation of illuminators by indirect use of electromagnetic waves emitted by a third party. It has the outstanding advantages of strong anti-stealth capability, low system cost and easy deployment, and can be very convenient to build multi-station radar to improve the comprehensive performance of system. However, the performance advantage of a multi-station passive radar system largely depends on the layout structure of it.Since the transmitter is not controlled, the optimal deployment of the receiver is the primary key that affects the performance of the passive radar. In this paper, focusing on the problem of optimal deployment of multi-station passive radar and aiming at the moving characteristics of radar target, the method of optimal deployment of radar system based on the detection probability of non-undulating and undulating targets is studied, which has important guiding significance for improving the performance of multi-station passive radar system. The main research contents are as follows:(1)Started with the working principle of the multi-station passive radar detection system, the undulation model of moving target and the relevant technical theory of target detection are analyzed,on which basis the optimal deployment model and the evaluation index based on the detection probability of the moving target are established. The theoretical model of two target detection probabilities based on empirical formula method and passive coherent technology is deduced. The above are the foundation for the proposal of multi-station passive radar system deployment method based on the detection probability of non-undulating and undulating targets.(2)To solve the problem of optimizing deployment of multi-station passive radar systems that detect non-undulating targets,a detection probability model of non-undulating targets is derived based on the radar range and empirical formulas, and a new optimization model of coverage effectiveness deployment is constructed based on this criterion. And solve the optimization model using particle swarm optimization. The optimized deployment method of the multi-station passive system is realized through simulation, and the results of the optimal deployment are compared with the effect of multiple sets of random deployment. The analysis of the average detection probability of all targets in key areas proves the superiority of the deployment method.(3)Aiming at solving the problem of optimal deployment of a multi-station passive radar system for detecting undulating targets, the detection probability model of undulating targets is derived based on passive coherent technology, and a method of deployment based on maximum average probability as an index is proposed. The simulation realizes the optimal deployment of multi-station passive radar system, and compares with the effect of multiple sets of random deployment, analyzes the effective coverage rate of the system to the monitoring area under different deployment modes, and verifies the effectiveness of the above deployment method.
