Social Media Use And Citizen Of New Social Stratum

With the rise and growth of new social stratum,their interaction with society and government has increasingly attracted public attention.Based on the literature of media use and citizen engagement,this study focuses on the impact of social media on the citizen engagement of the new social stratum.In this study,citizen engagement includes four dimensions:political knowledge,opinion expression,civic participation and political participation.By analyzing data form survey of the new social stratum in Zhejiang Province,this study found that social media promotes their opinion expression,civic participation and political participation.At the same time,despite the high level of political knowledge of the new social stratum,social media has no significant impact on it.By analyzing data from semi-interview,this study found that social media promotes new social stratum's involvement in public life,including political knowledge acquisition,online opinion expression and online participation.These results show that social media plays a positive role in the citizen engagement of new social stratum.
