The development of active phased array technology has led the airborne radar becoming multifunctional?reliable and tiny,in order to adapt the demand of operation in complex operational environment. As the core module of phased array radar, the performances of the T/R module,as well as its weight and volume, have an important impact on the radar system. Therefore, research on T/R modules is of great significance in realizing miniaturization of active phased array radar, improvement of overall radar performance, and reduction of production cost.LTCC technology is an important technology for converting planar package into 3-D package,in order to improve system integration and realize portable,high-performance and high reliability of electronic devices. It is an important means to realize the miniaturization of T/R module because of the characteristics of high integration, flexible design and good heat dissipation performance. This project requires the design of a six-channel Ka-band T/R module, which is the key module of the phased array radar. It mainly realizes the amplification, attenuation, phase shifting and synthetic amplification of the six received signals;and divides the transmission signal into six paths, respectively phase shifting and power amplifying and then outputting through the antenna. This paper analyzes the target requirements of the project in detail, compares the two structures commonly used in T/R modules. Then compares the advantages and disadvantages between LTCC technology and microwave multi-layer board technology, uses LTCC to complete the design of the brick type T/R modules, solves the problem of the top drop of the modules pulse work, the electromagnetic compatibility problem and the heat dissipation problem. The layout design of the module is completed and implemented, and finally the module is processed and tested.Based on the Wilkinson power divider theory, this paper optimizes the design of a six-way power distribution/synthesis network, which is used in the project. The isolation between each power split port is more than 20 dB and the return loss is greater than 18 dB.Based on the theory of microwave transmission lines, the important passive interconnect structure in the module is analyzed and optimized. The simulation results show that it has good transmission effect. This paper also uses thermal simulation software such as Flotherm to carry out thermal simulation analysis of the module, verifying the reliability of the thermal design of the module. The test results show that the receiver gain is greater than 21 dB,the receive noise figure is less than 4.3 dB,the transmit power is greater than 24 dBm,and the module size is 55 mm×35 mm×5 mm.
