As an important communicator of the Microblogging Opinion Field,media has a direct or indirect influence on public sentiment.This research is based on this,taking Weibo as the research platform and taking the influence of media accident reports on public sentiment as the research object.The “Chongqing bus crashing river incident” occurred on October 28,2018 is taken as a case.The paper analyzes the accident reports by content analysis method,and analyzes the public sentiment by using psychology's classification method and emotional dictionary.The correlation analysis and regression analysis are used to verify the specific influences of media reports on public sentiment.Based on the empirical analysis,we can draw the conclusion that news reporting really affects the public sentiment.In addition,the paper propose the media "sentiment setting" function and analyze its mechanism of action,and then,put forward the optimization strategies of accident report and public sentiment management strategies.Compared with the current research on the Microblogging Opinion Field,this study has got rid of the inherent ideas of a pure news reporting study and public opinion guided researches.It's based on the dual perspective of media and public to verify the influence of news reporting on public sentiment with empirical analysis data.The study found that the news topics about accountability,conflict,and rescue had positive effects on public negative sentiment,and the topics on self-help knowledge had positive effects on public rational expression.Positive news reporting had positive effects on positive public sentiment,negative ones had positive effects on public negative sentiment,and neutral reports had little significant impact on rational public expression;Based on the analysis of the impact of female drivers related news reporting on public sentiment,it is concluded that reports that were in line with public bias will promote the diffusion of irrational public sentiment.According to the above conclusions,the study believes that the news reporting plays the role of “sentiment-setting” for the public.At the same time,this study combines the classical theory of communication—agenda-setting theory and the spiral of silence theory with the emotional contagion theory in psychology,to analyze the mechanism of the media “sentiment-setting” function.Based on the above analysis and the shortcomings of news reporting in different stages of the evolution of public sentiment,this study puts forward the optimization strategies of news reporting: first,the media should verify the information through multiple information sources and carefully report the cause of the accident;second,the media should communicate in good faith and pay attention to the scale of reporting;third,the media should reform the issue of the homogenization of conflicts and cultivate the public awareness of the rule of law;and fourth,the media should conduct in-depth coverage of public safety to guide the public to think deeply.Appropriate accident reporting is the basis for promoting the sound development of public sentiment.To achieve sentimental management,we also need to follow the regulation of the development and changes of public sentiment.Therefore,this study proposes the public sentiment management strategies: avoiding public prejudice;insisting on balanced news reporting;making good use of knowledge dissemination;creating an emotional lexicon.
