Immersive VR technology,a new kind of human-computer interaction technology,can let people create and experience the virtual computer simulation system using the head-mounted display(HMD)or large-scale immersive display.With the help of computer,the system can make appropriate response to human behavior and create real-time simulation data.Then the system sends data to monitor,so that people can feel the real sense in the virtual environment.Recently,with the rapid development of VR technology and equipment,VR technology has been widely used in many areas including the field of museums depending on its interactive features and the unique experience of using it.In this work,we first make a feasibility analysis and requirement analysis for the experience system of the Terracotta Army based on immersive VR technology.Then we develop a immersive virtual experience system based on the immersive VR technology,in order to solve three problems,including the gap between the object of the Terracotta Army and historical situation,the high cost of tourists and the lack of interaction between the Terracotta Army and tourists.With HMD on,users can watch close-up of the Terracotta Army in our system.We simulate the historical situation of the Terracotta Army to narrow the distance between users and the cultural relics.Users can change the scenes at his or her option and enjoy the sight of the Terracotta Army in different historical situations.Moreover,with the help of VR equipment and human-computer interaction technology,users can interact with the Terracotta Army in immersive VR environment,thus enhancing the contact and connection between the cultural relics and users.We use Unity to design and develop the system,also describing the development environment and the core functions of the system.Finally,we make test and evaluation for our system to guarantee all of its core functions can run stably and accurately.Furthermore,we list the improvement to do in the future for our system and provide an outlook of the prospect of the immersive VR technology applied to virtual museum display area.
