With the development of the large data center,the rack server,a new type of server comes to appear.The rack server can be fabricated,delivered and deployed in a more efficient manner than the current product.Also it can decrease the total power dissipation and increase the power usage efficiency of the data center.During the transportation of the rack server,the vibration and shock introduced by the means of transportation and the handling procedure will impact the server and cause failure.It is necessary to identify the methodology to monitor and assess the safety of the transportation process.The research of this paper studies the transportation process of the rack server currently,summarizes the key factors and risk to the safety of the transportation and tests the vibration and the shock.With the analysis of the test data,the impact of the vibration and shock are quantified which can be used as the design guide of the mechanical design and package design of the rack server.To fix the safety issue which was captured during the test,the specific solution was implemented and verified during the regression test.The test result proved that the solution is valid to resolve the safety issue.Also the common methodology of monitoring the safety of the transportation process is identified.
