Spatial light modulator(SLM)is a kind of device which can transfer information with other types into spatial light.It is widely used in many areas such as optical information process,optical interconnection,projection and optical neural network,playing an important role in these areas and the performance of it is the key factor which limit the performance of applications.Most of present commercialized SLMs are based on LCoS or other materials with the properties of low modulation resolution,low speed,and can't modulate amplitude and phase independently.Hence,we need to develop a new SLM system which can meet the demand of high modulation resolution and high modulation speed.After the description of principals and features of Digital Mirror Device(DMD),we present a new design plan of spatial light modulation systems which is based on DMD and 4F optical system.we describe and illustrate the design plan of the system,and then do some simulation work to verify the feasibility of this design idea.After the preparation,we start to implement the system.The modulation system can be separated into two parts.The part of hardware includes laser,laser mirror,DMD,convex lens and filter aperture.And the installation of the hardware devices needs high resolution and continuous correction.The part of the software provides interfaces for input of modulation data and system control information,it is developed based on C++ programming language.We do some test work on this system,and it performs very well.We have achieved the design target that a high speed and high resolution spatial light modulation systems.
