In the process of reflecting on communication,this article turned its attention to the Chicago School.Under the predicament of the development of communication research,the drastic changes in the communication environment,and the localization of communication research,China's communication research urgently needs a new source of thought The Chicago School's thoughts about communication and interaction can inject new vitality into contemporary communication.Communication,at Dewey,is first and foremost the key to saving people from the animal world.Thought,language,and meaning are formed.This kind of communication is a kind of participatory interaction.It requires the two parties to understand each other in an imaginative way and cooperate to accomplish a common purpose.This kind of communication makes the community form and maintain,and the ideal democratic concept is the democracy in the community:from the individual's point of view,the individual participates in and guides the group activities according to their own abilities;from the group's point of view,the potential of each group member can be coordinated with common interests and public property.In this way,Dewey built the entire social life on the basis of communication.Cooley developed the idea of Dewey's interaction.He began to examine the role of communication from the perspective of how individuals can complete socialization from interaction.Cooley believes that human conscious ability,emotional ability,and consciousness and emotion itself are largely formed in society,and communication plays a central role in this.Conversely,the sociality of individual consciousness,on the other hand,means the consciousness of society.Cooley believes that the most direct social existence is the concept of human beings.In terms of its direct aspect,society is the relationship between personal concepts.This social concept has influenced his research method thoughts.The thoughts of Urban Communication are rooted in Simmel and Cooley.Cooley's thoughts on the basic group directly affected Parker,Wirth and others.The core of urban communication thought is that the difference of communication is the basic difference between rural society and urban society.The whole urban sociology is based on this difference.Dewey and Cooley's favor for face-to-face interactions are scattered in the urban sociological analysis of Park,Wirth and others,leading to a dualism between urban and rural areas,because the rural society is based on face-to-face interactions,while the cities are not.The Chicago School has also developed a research method of life history that breaks the boundaries between the researcher and the object and requires the object to become an introspective researcher.This methodological thought can enlighten us to think about the communication behavior from the perspective of the subject,so that the two parties as the real subject,not just the subject so called.
