As a weak optical signal detection technology, single photon detection is widely used in biomedical imaging, laser radar, optical ranging, astronomical observation, quantum optics and quantum information. In the past few decades, with the development of quantum information, especially quantum secure communication technology, single photon detection has gradually become a hot research field. In the visible and near-infrared bands,Silicon single-photon avalanche photodiodes(Si-SPADs)are the most widely used generation of single-photon detectors, with low detection efficiency, low dark count rate, low operating voltage and high Gain, simple structure and so on.In the fields of biomedical imaging, laser radar, optical ranging, etc.the time performance requirements of single photon detector are very strict. The current mainstream commercial single photon detector products, such as the SPCM-AQR series of ExcellTas,have a time jitter of about 350ps,which cannot meet the high demand for time performance.Based on the SPCM-AQR series single photon detector of ExcellTas,this paper explores the origin of single photon detector time jitter and proposes the time optimization of single photon detection time jitter by using constant fraction timing discrimination technology new plan. The proposed scheme reduces the time jitter of the SPCM-AQR series single photon detector from 3 50ps to 172ps.This study provides a new idea and experimental basis for the future development of single photon detector with low time jitter.
