Reverse Technology Spillover Effect Of OFDI

Chinese outward FDI is in a vigorous development,and the investment gradually focus on the middle and high technology field of manufacturing industry and gathers in developed countries.Domestic and foreign scholars have done a lot of researches on the reverse technology spillover effect of Chinese outward FDI,but most of researches were based on the macro level and there were very few researches from the micro perspective.Whether the reverse technology spillover from OFDI can further spread among domestic enterprises and improve the technological level of domestic enterprises has not been proved by scholars.This paper uses the combination of empirical research and case analysis to study the relationship between foreign direct investment behavior and technology spillover effects among domestic enterprises.The article draws on the model established by Bloom et al(2013)to calculates technology spillover value among domestic enterprises based on the cited data of the enterprises' patent.Since the technology spillover effect among domestic enterprises is not only affected by the OFDI behaviour,but also the R&D,government support,market environment and other factors.So the empirical research uses the propensity score matching method to study the relationship between OFDI and the technology spillover effect among enterprises.The empirical results show that OFDI can promote the technology spillover effect among enterprises.At the same time,taking Huawei technologies co.,ltd.and ZTE Corporation as research cases,the research results further confirm the results of the empirical study and also conclude that enterprises with technology-seeking overseas investment have better performance in technology spillover among different enterprises.At the end of the paper,this paper puts forward several inspirations.The government can encourage domestic enterprises to learn from the advanced technologies through OFDI,and realize the improvement of domestic technology from the perspectives of formulating overseas investment incentive policies,establishing scientific and technological achievements transformation and reward mechanisms,and building a good investment environment with foreign governments and so on.
